INSIDE THIS ISSUE:
A Homeland Security
official commented to PRB News on local news reports highlighting a
law enforcement alert for lower Manhattan indicating an al-Qaeda
terrorist threat.
The official with the Homeland Security Department told PRB News
that there is no cause for concern as if an attack is “immanent.”
WNBC News reported Wednesday, March 12, on law enforcement alerts to
Wall Street firms of a new threat from sources connected to
al-Qaeda.
“It is not even clear who the source of the threat is,” the official
said. “It is uncorroborated.”
WNBC said an NYPD spokesman noted his awareness of the threat,
adding further precautions would be taken in protecting the area.
“Extra measures will be in place until officials learn more about
the overseas sourcing,” Jonathan Dienst with WNBC News said.
Homeland Security is not giving the source a particularly high
rating on the credibility scale. “It is quite indirect,” the
official said.
“Of course, you exercise caution and you always pay attention when
you hear this, but there is nothing specific on targets.”
Investigators and leaders with the local joint anti-terrorist task
force said a bulletin has been issued out of an abundance of
precaution.
