Christian Action Network
INSIDE THIS ISSUE:
Christian action is
underway on the Islamic education in public schools front, as
Christian Action Network president Martin Mawyer begins what will be
salvo after salvo of gathered petitions for state governor responses
in every state across America.
CAN petitions are on the way to California Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger to end the state sponsorship of Islamic religious
instruction.
The petition drive, Mawyer said, calls for a gubernatorial probe of
violations to what have become accepted norms for interpreting the
“Establishment Clause” of the U.S. Constitution.
“This is an interpretation that has put Christian and Jewish Bible
themes out of the public schools and the lives of our school
children, and we have had to deal with that as parents and as
Christian church and ministry leaders,” Mawyer said.
“What I find totally ridiculous and unacceptable is for public
schools to turn around and start public funded programs that favor
Islamic religious instruction, Islamic prayers, and Islamic
religious dietary laws.”
In an appeal to Schwarzenegger, and soon to all 50 U.S. state
governors, Mawyer states, “As president of 250,000-member Christian
Action Network, I ask you to initiate a probe into the special
accommodations and favoritism now being extended at public expense
to religious Muslim students that are denied to students of
Christian, Jewish and other religions.”
He adds that tens of thousands of concerned Christian citizens join
in the ongoing petition to ask their state government “to end the
pro-Islamic religious favoritism in public schools and at
public-funded colleges and universities wherever they are
discovered,” he said.
“In a development you may find ironic, though adversaries on
numerous issues in the past, the American Civil Liberties Union is
beginning close scrutiny of the pro-Islamic favoritism, agreeing
with our position,” Mawyer added.
“The instances of favoritism and pandering are becoming that
obvious. There are cases of public schools separating students by
sex as an accommodation to Muslim religious views, more of teaching
Islamic prayers and theological doctrines as superior to others.
“Muslim prayer rooms, ceremonial foot baths, Islamic religious
dietary restrictions and religious holiday observances are more
signs of public favoritism for Islamic religious views over others,”
Mawyer added.
“This favoritism is not escaping our attention, so we are responding
against the clear pandering to Islam that is taking place after
years of secularizing away Christian and Jewish influences.”
The petition calls on governors to respond to the Christian Action
Network office so action on the issue can be confirmed.
“I want to give a favorable report to our members and to a public
that is rising up in alarm to this egregious and very sensitive
injustice,” Mawyer said.
