It’s been nearly two years since Hillary Clinton called Al-Jazeera “real news.” Now, like it or not, Al-Jazeera (and its so-called “real news”) is coming to the United States.
No need to rehash old news, but for those who missed it, Al Gore sold his dying television network, Current TV, to the Qatar-based broadcaster Al-Jazeera on January 2, 2013, for about $500 million (just in time to avoid the Obama tax hike).
Much has been said about Al-Jazeera coming to America. Pundits have criticized the network for its broadcasts of anti-Jewish hatred, its support of child suicide bombers and its disdain for America.
There’s no shortage of controversy when it comes to Al-Jazeera.
For instance, Al-Jazeera staffers were once caught on videotape shouting, “down with fascist America.” They also aired a segment — just last September — praising the 9/11 terrorists attacks. And this “I can’t believe my ears and eyes” moment comes from a network that wants to broadcast into our living rooms.
Yet there it was on Al-Jazeera. Muhammad Al-Zawahiri was interviewed by the network and said the terrorist attacks of 9/11 were necessary because, “We consider anyone hostile towards the Muslims to be an enemy.”
It should come as no surprise that Al-Jazeera also hosts a program from one of the most powerful (and controversial) imam’s in the world, Yusuf Al-Qaradawi. I know. Who? Yusuf what? Never heard of him. Can’t pronounce his name.
You’re not alone and you’re not to be faulted, unless of course you’re a radical Islamist. Then you should be very familiar with his rants and raves. He hosts a weekly program on Al-Jazeera called “Sharia and Life.”
Al-Qaradawi said, “Muslims must start acting in order to conquer this world.” Conquer the world, mind you. Not peacefully coexist with non-Muslims. But to conquer them and their world.
He has also said suicide bombers in the form of a “children bomb” must continue against Israel.
Elsewhere, Al-Qaradawi has issued a fatwa that “permits the killing of American civilians.”
Hillary Clinton said the channel was “changing people’s minds and attitudes. And like it or hate it, it is really effective.”
Really effective at what? that’s the question. What “attitudes” does Al-Jazeera want to change in America? What in our “minds” do they want changed?
For that matter, who is Al-Jazeera and what is their message?
The message of Al-Jazeera can best be found in the messenger. That messenger is Qatar, which owns the network.
I don’t blame most (well, more than most) Americans if they cannot place Qatar on a map. But now that they are going to be streaming into our living rooms, maybe we should educate ourselves. You know, to see whether we like their message.
Qatar is a small peninsula sitting off the east coast of Saudi Arabia and is about the size of Connecticut.
Any other comparison to America ends there. Qatar’s citizens live under Islamic repression. They have no freedoms. This is important. Because if they have nothing in common with America (and I mean, nothing!) then what is the message they want to broadcast to our citizens? And why would we want to listen to that message?
Are we so foolish as to believe that Qatar has one message for its own people (repression) and another for Americans (freedom)? I’m sure some are that foolish — Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, the entire morning crew of MSNBC, to name a few. They apparently want that message and they praise the network. Brian Stelter, the media reporter for The New York Times, can also be added to that list of fools. He is convinced Al-Jazeera is coming to America for real journalism, “not to do some kind of propaganda.”
I can’t even seriously address this type of nonsense. Would we have allowed Stalinist Russia to broadcast into our living rooms? Nazi Germany? Communist China? Should we give Fidel Castro a TV channel too, just to be fair?
Yet some in America thinks it’s a good idea to allow Islamic Qatar into our living rooms, a country which admits that it gives money to such terrorist groups as Al-Qaeda.
So, who is this messenger – Qatar?
Qatar is an absolute monarchy. It’s ruled by a king. Right now that king is Sheikh Hamad Al Thani. The citizens of Qatar live to serve their king. (Yeah, forget that “We the people” stuff)
Sharia law runs Qatar’s government. Its criminal code is based solely on the Quran. Floggings and stonings for criminal acts are permitted.
Christianity is permitted as long as it remains private. No public praying, preaching or proselytizing is allowed. A Catholic church that sits in the capital city of Qatar is not allowed to have bells, crosses or any other Christian symbol on its premises.
The “World Watch List” lists Qatar as the 18th worst country in the world for persecution of Christians.
If a Muslim converts to Christianity, it is a death sentence.
Qatar has hundreds of thousands of foreign workers in its country and routinely turns thousands of them into slaves, according to the US State Department. Some of these slaves are also turned into prostitutes.
Domestic violence (meaning the beating of wives) is legal.
There is no free speech in Qatar. Criticizing the government is punishable with a life sentence.
And for a country that wants to freely broadcast its Al-Jazeera network into America, the Freedom House says Qatar’s media is “not free.” Journalists can be arrested without a court order.
Even Winnie the Pooh cannot escape the repression in Qatar. The king banned images of Pooh’s best friend, Piglet, saying the image of pigs is offensive to Muslims.
And though Piglet cannot find a home in Qatar, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, was once welcomed with open arms. Members of Qatar’s royal family played host to the mass murderer in the late 1990s.
Certainly, Qatar’s values, political views, government and religious tenants are at opposite poles (opposite extremes!) with the American people, our Constitution and our freedoms.
We cannot be deceived about the ultimate goal of Qatar and its Al-Jazeera network. It is there to preach their values – not ours.
But if America is going to let Qatar into the homes of Americans, you would think they could at least get on thing right…
Qatar could help us fight the war against terrorism.
Even here they fail miserably.
The U.S. State Department says Qatar’s record of fighting terrorists is the “worse in the region.” Not, mind you, one of the worse in the region. But the worse! The worse!!
The Qatari royal family has given millions of dollars each year to Al-Qaeda, a group that has declared war on America. The royal family says they pay this money due to fears of Al-Qaeda attacking their small country unless they cough up the dough.
A Qatari official put it this way to a reporter from The Atlantic: “We are a soft target and prefer to pay to secure our national and economic interests. We are not the only ones doing so.”
What’s a little blackmail money, right? And who cares if any of that money is used to kill Americans?
So the “real news” here is that Qatar is fearful of Al-Qaeda and will pay millions to this archenemy of America to keep itself from being attacked. Those funds from Qatar, however, are then used by Al-Qaeda to attack American and western interests around the globe.
Let’s keep the facts simple and try to make sense of all this:
Hillary Clinton says Al-Jazeera is “real news.” Al Gore sells his leftwing, over-the-top liberal network to an Islamic country that stones criminals, kills apostates, persecutes Christians and allows physical violence against women and enslaves foreigners. Qatar uses the very oil deposits that offend Al Gore to make billions of dollars and then gives millions of that money to Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda uses that money to try and kill us.
But not to worry. Al-Jazeera will soon be here to “change our minds and attitudes” about it.
Then again, perhaps the best thing is to contact your cable provider now and demand that this terrorist network masquerading as a TV channel be told to stay out!
