Counter-Terrorism Group Says Attack on U.S., Europe May Be Near

There are various indications, particularly from radical Islamic activity on the Internet, that terrorists may be preparing to launch an attack on the U.S. and Europe, the Northeast Intelligence Network has reported.

“According to information developed within the last 24 hours by a deep-cover intelligence operative, Islamic terrorists have been dispatched to the U.S. and Europe and may be in place, preparing to executive unspecified attacks,” wrote Douglas J. Hagmann, the group’s director on September 17 on their web site.

Hagmann wrote that these threats go beyond the usual rhetoric that is commonplace of radical Islamic web sites and Internet forums, saying their origin and nature makes them more credible.

“Pray for the successes of our brothers in America & Europe. Expect ‘good news’ soon,” stated one post.

He also wrote that some of the online activity mirrors the activity that came before the attacks on London on July 7, 2005. He noted that several Internet forums used by terrorists have gone off-line and that an Al-Qaeda videotape celebrating 9/11 may have been delayed so it’d be timed closer to a potential attack.

The Department of Homeland Security issued a special alert over the summer due to concerns that terrorist groups may view important events in the U.S. such as the presidential elections as an opportunity to attack.
