FOREST, VA -- CAN President, Martin
Mawyer, said his organization will distribute 7,000 brochures to
residents and businesses in Charlotte County, VA demanding the
county remove a road sign, “Sheikh Gilani Lane,” honoring a known
international terrorist of that name. The road sign is erected at the entrance
of an Islamic community in Red House called “Muslims of America” and
honors their leader, Sheikh Mubarak Ali Gilani who lives in
Pakistan. The brochure will cite an official law
enforcement report that clearly states: “Gilani is now known as an
international terrorist.” The report titled “Jamaat ul-Fuqra:
Gilani Followers Conducting Paramilitary Training in U.S.,” had been
distributed recently to law enforcement leaders by the U.S.
Department of Justice. “Over the past two decades, a terrorist
group known as Jamaat ul-Fuqra, or ‘Community of the Impoverished,’
has been linked to multiple murders, bombings, and various other
felonies throughout the United States and Canada.” CAN President, Martin Mawyer, said, “It
is a disgrace and dishonor for residents of Virginia to have a road
sign, that also appears on the officials maps of our great state,
honoring a known terrorist. This road sign must be removed.” The brochure is scheduled to be mailed
this week and will reach every home, business, civic club, church
and government official in the county of Charlotte. Christian Action Network has been
lobbying Charlotte County supervisors since last November to remove
the offensive road sign. In February the group held a public
demonstration in Charlotte Court House demanding the sign be
removed. The brochure, designed to alert and
educate county residents about Sheikh Mubarak Gilani and his Muslims
of America organization, also cites other government findings. In 2005, the United States Department of
Homeland Security, reported: “Other predicted possible sponsors of
attacks include Jamaat ul-Fuqra, a Pakistani-based group that has
been linked to Muslims of America.” The brochure also quotes Congressman
Virgil Goode, whose district encompasses the Red House Muslim camp,
as saying: “I would vote against naming a road for Sheikh Gilani,
based upon my knowledge of Sheikh Gilani and his background.” Christian Action Network is a 250,000
member non-profit educational organization based in Forest, VA.
