Al-Qaeda Plot to Assassinate President Bush Foiled

Israel has arrested six Arabs involved in an Al-Qaeda plot to assassinate U.S. President George W. Bush while he visited the country. The plot involved two of the Arabs were Israeli citizens and four were Palestinians from eastern Jerusalem who sought to shoot down the helicopter transporting the President, according to the Israeli internal security service, Shin Bet.

Two of the suspected terrorists sent messages on web sites linked to Al-Qaeda asking for advice on how to successfully shoot down the President’s helicopter. When Israeli security forces seized the computers of the suspected terrorists, data on how to construct bombs was found.

In related news, the Drudge Report claimed its government sources expressed great worry about a planned trip to Israel this week by Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama.

“Coming just weeks after shots were fired at Israel’s TLV airport during a farewell ceremony for France’s Sarkozy, from an apparent suicide of a security guard, Obama’s trek to the region has become a serious logistical and safety challenge,” wrote The Drudge Report.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has cancelled his planned visit to the Gaza Strip due to security concerns and a specific threat to his life as well.
