Combat at Arab jihad enclave heats up in Israel

Gaza pummeled as combat at the Arab Islamic jihad enclave heats up in Israel focused on fabricated nationality claims for “Palestine”

Ibrahim Barzak for the Associated Press reported Thursday, Jan. 17, on air and ground fire from Israeli troops answering more than 150 Arab Islamist rockets and mortar rounds fired from Gaza City since Tuesday.

Integral to concerns over the troubled Arab enclave is a breakdown on peace negotiations toward fabricating a new nation named Palestine, after ancient Roman nomenclature.

Gaza City and the region known as Gaza Strip has been granted autonomous government in Israel because of its concentration of displaced Arabian residents.

The Israeli attacks killed a militant leader and six others in Gaza.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert vowed to strike Palestinian militants "without compromise, without concessions and without mercy." His forces carried out stepped-up attacks, but Olmert gave no further hint that a large-scale offensive was near.

The widening violence has clouded peace talks, resumed after a Mideast conference in November sponsored by President Bush. The spike in violence has drawn condemnations from moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Israel's partner in the peace negotiations.

On Thursday, Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdeineh told The Associated Press the violence is calling into question further talks. "No one can proceed with negotiations when the situation is like this," he said.

Gaza militants under Hamas fired the rockets and mortars at Israeli towns, no serious injuries are reported, but residents who put up with the daily barrages are traumatized.

Israel struck back at northern Gaza, targeting rocket squads and areas militants frequently use. A leader of the small Hamas-allied Popular Resistance Committees, Raad Abu al-Ful, and a woman relative were killed when a missile hit their vehicle, the faction said.

The PRC pledged retaliation. "Sooner or later, we will, by God, avenge every drop of bloodshed, and the response will be equal to the crime," the group said in a statement…

Direct Hamas involvement in the rocket attacks is a new development this week as 30, including a Hamas strongman, Mahmoud Zahar son, died since Tuesday.

Israeli aircraft flew numerous sorties and fired missiles at several targeted rocket squads, and they scored several hits, army leaders said. Islamic militants decried several civilian deaths, including a mother and her child on a donkey tied to one of the targets.
