Wilma Riley writing for the Scotsman reports on charges against Mary McKay, 32, who admittedly walked up to Tarik Husan and Sarbaz Kamil on a Glasgow street, knifing Husan, saying, “you’re all terrorists.”
She repeated, “You’re all terrorists!” as she stabbed Husan repeatedly in the chest an arm.”
As a bleeding Mr Husan, who cannot speak English, broke away, she said: "You're all terrorists."
Yesterday, at the High Court in Glasgow, McKay admitted attempting to murder Mr Hasan.
The attack, in Tollcross Road, happened on September 10, on the eve of the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York, Pennsylvania and Washington.
After the attack McKay, clutching the knife, walked into a shop - she waited for police to arrive.
Vinit Khurana, prosecuting, said: "During a police interview, the accused said she stabbed Mr. Husan – who was wearing an 'NY' T-shirt – because he was a terrorist."
Later, she said: "I hope the guy is dead. I just stabbed a guy with the same color of skin as a terrorist. I just saw the two Pakis and he had an NY on his top.
"It was three plunges. I know that there are severe consequences. I know it's at least attempted murder."
The court was told that Mr Hasan suffered a stab wound to the left side of his chest and one to his arm. He has made a good recovery, but still has scars…
Judge Lord Menzies told McKay: "This was a violent attack on a complete stranger in the street with no logical motive. I am concerned there is a risk to the public."
An amazing deduction – and we know the act was not justified if Husan were an Islamic jihadist – because of individual rights to due process for all persons if not in the act of attacking.
This illustrates two things: we must prepare by isolating the ideology of jihad and identifying it as an illegal conspiracy, and fight fire with truth, not with “violent attack on a complete stranger…with no logical motive” fire.
