Airport tackles fence-jumping crew

Southwest Florida International Airport tackles fence-jumping crew as three men rush the tarmac from a police confrontation

The National Terror Alert Response Center reported Sunday, Feb. 10, on three men arrested after a foot chase onto the tarmac of Southwest Florida International Airport.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office sources said a call came in about suspicious activity at the airport’s Hertz Rental Car area – an apparent auto theft attempt broken up by arriving deputies.

Witnesses said that the suspects tried to steal a rental car but were unsuccessful. When deputies arrived, the men abandoned their own vehicle and took off on foot.

Deputies said that the suspects jumped a fence and headed down the tarmac. Deputies and airport police chased the men down.

The names of the suspects have not yet been released.

Three men are under arrest Saturday night after hoping a fence at Southwest Florida International Airport.

Airport spokeswoman Vicki Moreland tells WINK News, three people were seen acting suspiciously near the Hertz rent-a-car. A call was made to the Port Authority Police around 9:10 to report the activity.

When police approached the men they fled on foot.

While running from police, the men jumped the airport fence and were on the air-side of the airport. That means the men were in a secured area without permission.

After entering the secured area, the men were quickly caught.

Moreland tells WINK News they authorities do not believe the men were trying to commit any terror related act by jumping the fence. Airport Police believe the men were just trying to run from police, and that is why they jump the fence.

The reports form WINK News and NTARC are incomplete because they do not note if the men were of Middle-Eastern appearance or decent – a profiling element that remains controversial because of political correctness demands by the Counsel on American Islamic Relations.

Should we seek to find out what would be crucial added information about a possible threat? Or should we avoid offending CAIR?
