The National Terror Alert Response Center
Sunday, Feb. 10, reported on a breakthrough round up in India of
Islamic jihad terrorists stemming from a January 1 attack probe.
India’s police nabbed three of the six suspects on the way to
Mumbai, allegedly intent on carrying out a series of bombing attacks
against installations of the financial center, the stock market.
Two of the arrested terrorists have confessed that
they carried out attacks on the Indian Institute of Science in
Bangalore in 2006, police added.
A Pakistani national was among those held, and 2 AK series rifles,
hand grenades, a pistol and cartridges were recovered from them.
[Police spokesman] Vikram Singh told reporters his office acted on a
tip-off that two of the four terrorists involved in the Rampur
attack were planning a series of fresh strikes.
This time the target would be the Bombay Stock Exchange, Churchgate
station, and a temple in south Mumbai. Tipsters said the two were
hiding somewhere in the Bareilly-Rampur area.
Cops also came to know of one Jung Bahadur, alias Baba of Milkamaru
locality in Rampur, was coordinating their movements. Police picked
him up on February 9.
He revealed the whereabouts of two terrorists who were to meet him
at the Rampur bus stand.
These two were picked up as well and on Saturday night, and they
identified themselves as Faheem and Mohammed Shareef.
Their interrogation revealed that three of their associates were to
board a train from Lucknow to Mumbai on Sunday morning: subsequently
rounded up from Lucknow’s Charbagh railway station were Sabauddin
Ahmad, Amar Singh of Pakistan and Abu Sama of Kashmir.
Homegrown terrorism is a constant tragedy for nations having to endure it. The incident of six arrested in jihad terror probe, India, illustrates the constant vigilance needed against the threat.
