Concerns run high as al-Qaeda plans attacks in Germany, according to senior official

The National Terror Alert Response Center citing Die Welt News Friday, Feb. 8, reported on German authorities who said al-Qaeda is preparing Islamic Jihad attacks there soon.

The secretary of state in the interior ministry, August Hanning, said Al-Qaeda leaders based in the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan have “decided to carry out attacks in Germany.”

“We are worried that we will not be able to foil every plot,” he added.

Die Welt said the federal intelligence agency and police look to Germany’s military mission in Afghanistan as prompting Al-Qaeda to move the country “much higher” on its list of targets.

In Sept., police arrested two German converts to Islam and a Turkish man on suspicion of planning to blow up US military targets such as the airbase at Ramstein.

The men stockpiled about 1,500 pounds of chemicals for “massive” attacks to coincide with September 11, remembrances in the United States, the security services said.

The three likely belong to the Islamic Jihad Union, a group with links to Al-Qaeda.The deputy president of the federal police, Bernhard Falk, said there were clear indications that Al-Qaeda had ordered other attacks and that its cadres were preparing to strike.

Note the young men of Turkish origin or German converts to Islam recruited to become “holy warriors” sent back to Germany to carry out attacks.

The question remains whether or not Germany allows rural areas to be purchased by Islamic groups so the training of terrorist cells can be ratcheted up – or are we in the U.S. the only ones dumb enough to allow that?
