Christian Action Network
(April 14, 2006) The Christian Action Network has sent a legal letter to the Justice Department demanding former Vice-President Al Gore be investigated for charges “sedition” against the United States.
On February 13, 2006 Al Gore delivered a speech in Saudi Arabia accusing the United States and its President, George Bush, of committing “terrible abuses” against Arabs in America.
Gore stated that Arabs in the United States are being “indiscriminately rounded up, often on minor charges of overstaying a visa or not have a green card in proper order, and held in conditions that were just unforgivable.”
Gore cited no evidence of such “abuses.”
“This is nothing short than an act of sedition against the United States,” Martin Mawyer, president of Christian Action Network stated.
“To go into a foreign country and speak at a gathering of radical Muslims and charge America with committing ‘terrible abuses’ against Arabs, is to betray America and put our troops and all Americans at risk of retaliation.”
The National Association of Chiefs of Police has also crticized former Vice-President Al Gore.
“As a result of his obvious hatred towards the President of the United States, former Vice President Al Gore has crossed the line of diplomatic decency by denigrating his own country within the Islamic world,” the organization said in a press release.
“Mr. Gore’s statements against America,” Mawyer said, “gives Islamic terrorists the justification they need to continue their assault against our nation. To tell radical Muslims that America has committed ‘unforgiveable’ acts is nothing short than giving them a license to attack American citizens in our homes and our troops overseas.”
The federal law governing treason states:
United States Code, 18 USC 2381 Treason:
“Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding office under the United States.” (United States Code, 18 USC 2381 Treason.)
In its legal request to the Justice Department and filed by its attorney, David Wm. T. Carroll, the Christian Action Network stated:
“The aid and comfort Mr. Gore gave to the enemies of the United States, specifically the Saudi Wahabbists and other extreme Islamists, by such unsupported and unsupportable remarks should be addressed by the proper authorities.
“My client hereby requests that the United States Department of Justice open a criminal investigation file into the seditious activities of Mr. Gore for giving aid and comfort to the enemy in the United States war on terrorism.”
